We know DC brushed motor is widely used for many different applications; from conveyor, AGV (Automated Guide Vehicle), mobile robot and combat robot. One of the reasons is the ease to use it, just connect the two terminals of motor to DC power respectively, it will start rotating, so simple. Yet, to control the speed and direction from a controller, a motor driver is needed. 

This is SmartDriveDuo-160. Yes! Is 160 Amperes of continuous output current!

It is one of the latest smart series motor drivers. On board high current MOSFETs are switched at 16 KHz to ensure quiet operation and no annoying whining sound. And using MOSFETs eliminate the need for additional flyback diodes. Besides, it also equipped with a microcontroller unit to provide smart features such as multiple input mode, current limiting and thermal protection. SmartDrive160 can also be hooked up with another similar unit and operates in pair. This make driving a robot with differential drive a truly plug and play experience.

Note: Normal wire cannot survives 160A or even 100A, so get the thickest possible wire for both the Vmotor and Motor. We are using 2 to 3 8AWG cable (Black and Red), for each terminal.

I need a control for a 24 volt DC motor, about 40 A, with the possibility of speed variation and forward direction backward. I would like to know if the Cytron 160 is suitable and above all to know how to connect a remote control with which to switch on the system, give the signal of forward / backward and adjust the speed with a potentiometer. Are there any limitations for PWM input in terms of frequency and voltage? For example, can we send a 250Hz PWM (24V) as input signal using an industrial PLC? ( Felipe, 02/07/2019 )
