Note : MDDS60 is shipped in Rev1.10 since January 2019. There is a component changes on the circuit. The modification does not affect the performance or the interface.
After Cytron's 1st 10Amp smart drive, now we introduce the 60Amp version! It supports dual channels, 60A continuous current for each channel. Building combat/sumo robot become easy, choose motor+wheel, get high power battery, thick wire, connect it to MDDS60, choose a RC controller and you have a robot !! Do check the User's Manual for details. Quick Start Guide is here.
With knowledge and feedback we gathered from MD10C, MDD10A, MD30C, MDS40A, MDDS10 and MDS160A, we are thrilled to launch this smart motor driver and can't wait to see what you can do with it.
SmartDriveDuo60 has smart features of MDDS10, with higher continuous current capability, 60Amp each channel. It even has brushless fan attached on the top cover to cool it! MDDS60 is ready with the capability to accept RC (Radio Control) signal for mix mode drive, analog voltage from potentiometer, PWM from microcontroller (Arduino, PIC, or any other microcontroller), and even controlled via UART (serial) command. The operation modes is configure by the DIP switch on MDDS60. The commonly used configurations are printed on bottom cover. High current MOSFETs are switching at 16KHz for quiet operation. To cover the driver properly and to mount the fans for cooling, we have added top and bottom cover! Nice!
With the on board temperature sensor, this smart driver is able to limit the output current stage by stage preventing itself from overheat and burnt! The peak current is 100A for 1 second and it will automatically limit the output current.
Not to forget, to make it RC receiver friendly, we have added 2x3 header pin; with just 2 RC extension cable, the wiring is done, and it takes 1 minutes!
With MDDS60, you can now series up 3 SLA battery to power your motor as it support up to 45V DC input. And you only require one power input to operate the motor and driver. Don't worry, 3-cell and 6-cell Li-po battery are within the operating voltage :) Hey! It also come with battery low voltage warning feature, what else do you need?
* Do use proper wire/cable for battery and motor connection. Think jumper wire/cable cannot support high current application. We recommend using AWG8 Red and Black multicore wire.
  • DC Brush motor Driver, not for brushless motor
  • Input Voltage (Motor): 7 - 45VDC
  • Single power operation, just connect power to battery input.
  • Dual Channels, it can drives two brush motor independently, or mixed.
  • Regenerative Braking.
  • Operating modes: RC (RC servo signal), Analog, PWM, simplified and packetized UART.
  • Support Signed magnitude and Locked Anti-phase in PWM mode.
  • Top cover comes with two DC brushless fans to cool the driver.
  • Two manual/test buttons for each channel.
  • Two output indicator LEDs for each channel.
  • Power, Error indicator, RUN status (Left and Right) LEDs
  • On board reset button to restart the MCU after changing operation mode.
  • Temperature feedback for current limit and prevent overheating of MOSFET.
  • Support up to 60A continuous current at room temperature.
  • Support up to 100A peak for 1 second. Current will be limited as temperature raises.
  • Suitable for combat or sumo robot.
  • 16KHz switching frequency for quiet operation.
  • On board switching voltage regulator for higher power efficiency.
  • Battery low voltage monitoring mode.
  • We have tried this driver with single power window motor at 24V, full load without smoke coming out :)
  • NO polarity protection, please double check the power input connection.
  • Do use proper cable/wire for the battery and load, thin/normal cable/wire will melt and burn.
  • Dimension: ~190mm x 121mm x 45mm.

Hi, will is handle dc motor with current 135/140 voltage 36/48 if not do you have a dc motor driver that will handle these power? ( khaled, 28/08/2020 )
Not answered yet.
Is it possible to disable feature which checks that input signal should be 0 when unit is started? I would want to use this in car as a fuel pump controller, where max current draw for the pumps DC motor is 37A (100% duty 30s max). Continous duty is around 20-25% for max 2-3 hours.

I'm asking this because, when power is switched on, ECU sends PWM signal right after startup for priming pulse and I can't start this controller before ECU.

Hi, for technical assistance, you may drop an email to support@cytron.io Thanks :)
When I give the driver a 24V voltage input, what is the voltage output to the motors that I will receive? The same question with 12V input ( Sunny, 06/10/2019 )
Hi! The output voltage will be the same as the input voltage. Thanks :)
Hello. Can I know the weight of the driver please? ( Sunny, 30/09/2019 )
Hi! The weight of this item is about 533.70 g. :)
Can we bridge 2 channels and use this driver as single channel driver with double current capacity ? ( Akshay Kanere, 10/07/2019 )
Hi. Sorry, you can't bridge 2 channels and use this driver as single channel driver
when I want to set the mode "Sign Magnitude",Which shoud I set the DIP1/2? "0,1:Analog"or"1,0:PWM"?
best regards Kenta
( Kenta Yasuda, 17/06/2019 )
Hi, to set the mode "Sign Magnitude" for DIP1/2 you can choose either "0,1:Analog"or"1,0:PWM"
Hi, is the motor output (motor terminal block) of this driver fixed or does it depend on the input source voltage. Also, is the motor output a PWM voltage or does the output depend on the input (like if the input is PWM, the output will also be PWM)? ( Dexter, 18/03/2019 )
Hi, the Input Voltage (Motor) is between 7 - 45VDC. If you put 12V input the output will be 12V. For more details, you may post on our forum.

Does this device have any short circuit or overcurrent protection/limit beyond the thermal limiting (which I'm concerned may not react quickly enough to prevent thermal runaway)? You mentioned in a previous response that stall current will destroy the controller, I guess this means there is no active limiting with foldback? ( Philip, 09/01/2019 )
Hi, yes this driver doesn't equipped with overcurrent protection. Currently, MDDS30, MDS40B and MDS160A comes with this feature. Thanks.
the mdds60 smartduomotor driver is showing zero output voltage at both the motor terminals. ( shwetang, 11/03/2018 )

Hi, I'm a french teacher and I bougth the MDDS60 for a student project but I don't find some graphics of motor curves. It's for evaluate if a dc motor with a stall current of 133A can start with this motor driver. Did you have some for me ? And can I perform a regenerative breaking with it ? Thanks of your response. ( Antoine, 10/02/2018 )
Hi, this driver supports 60A continuous and (1 second) 100A peak. 133A stall current is too high for this driver and and have possibility to damage too. You can consider to use our MDS160A for this kind of application. For further questions, please visit to our technical forum for similar question or post your question there, as this session is only for short inquiry. Thanks.
