Description

The perfect HAT in making the Raspberry Pi single-board computer becoming a fully portable device :) This is the long-awaited Li-polymer (LiPo) Battery HAT for Raspberry Pi, SW6106 Power Bank Solution, with Embedded Protection Circuits.

The Li-polymer Battery HAT integrates SW6106 power bank management chip, allows the HAT to provides 5V regulated power supply to your Raspberry Pi or other 5V devices, from a high capacity Li-polymer battery. It will charge the battery as well, supports bi-directional quick charge.

Note: This HAT is NOT true UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) HAT. From our testing, it will interrupt the 5V to Raspberry Pi GPIO when the charging of the battery is removed, causing Raspberry Pi to restart.

This HAT utilizes Li-polymer battery with higher capacity, which means longer battery life, and allows higher loads. The size of the HAT fit perfectly on to:

Of course, it is still compatible with smaller size Raspberry Pi board, the HAT is bigger than the motherboard though.

Features:

  • Onboard SW6106 chip, supports bi-directional quick charge, supports multi quick charge protocols like PD/QC/FCP/PE/SFCP
  • Lithium battery protection circuitry provides reverse protection, overcharge protection, and short circuit protection
  • Onboard indicators: quick charge, power capacity
  • PH 2.0 battery connector, for connecting the 3.7V 3000mA high capacity Li-polymer battery (MSDS certified)

Specifications:

  • Output voltage: 5V at a maximum of 3A (according to SW6106 datasheet)
  • Charge voltage: 5V
  • Applicable battery: 3.7V Li-polymer battery (4.2V when fully charged)
  • Dimension: 65.0mm × 56.5mm
  • Mounting hole size: 3.0mm

What's on Board:

  1. Raspberry Pi GPIO connector: for connecting Raspberry Pi
  2. PH 2.0 battery connector: for 3.7V Li-polymer battery

  4. USB Type-A connector: 5V power output
  5. Micro USB connector: 5V battery charge
  6. SW6106 power management chip
  7. Power output control switch:
    1. Click: operating mode, provides 5V output
    2. Double click: standby mode, no output
  8. Battery power capacity indicator: 5x LEDs to indicate the power capacity and charging status
  9. Quick charge indicator: on when quick charging
  10. Li-polymer battery: 3.7V 3000mAh, MSDS certified

Using It:

Discharge:

  1. Connect it to Raspberry Pi:
    1. Step1: Insert the Li-polymer battery to 2.0mm battery socket.
    2. Step2: Single-press Standby button, set it to discharge mode
    3. Step3: Stack the HAT onto Raspberry Pi for powering through GPIO
  2. For other devices:
    1. Step1: Insert the Li-polymer battery to 2.0mm battery socket.
    2. Step2: Single-press Standby button, set it to discharge mode
    3. Step3: Connect it to other devices by USB cable or wires.

Charge:

  1. Normal Charge:
    1. Step1: Insert the Li-polymer battery to 2.0mm battery socket.
    2. Step2: Connect the power adapter to micro B USB or USB- C interface/socket by USB cable
  2. Quick charge
    1. Step1: Insert the Li-polymer battery to 2.0mm battery socket.
    2. Step2: Connect power adapter (support quick charge) to USB-C interface/socket
    3. Step3: Check if the Quick charge indicator turns on.

Note:

  • The module will enter sleep mode when the working current is less than 40mA and stop to discharge.
  • The Quick charge mode only works when you connect a power adapter that supports a quick charge.
  • To power Raspberry Pi, you can attach it to the GPIO or connect the USB-A interface to Pi by USB cable.
  • This module CANNOT work as UPS. It will cause Raspberry Pi to restart when charging power is removed.
  • The battery is about 4.2V when fully charged. You should discharge the battery to 3.0V to store it, otherwise, it may be damaged.
  • Please disconnect any devices when you replace the battery.
  • DO NOT change the battery provided with other battery without a protective panel.
  • Please check the poles of the battery interface carefully when you connect batteries.
