    Description

UC00C is a low cost alternative to the popular FTDI USB to UART converter. It even works with both 3.3V and 5V systems.

Serial communication, particularly UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver and Transmitter), is one of the most commonly used communication protocol for computers, microcontrollers and sensors. Some Arduino main boards have USB to UART converter built-in in order to facilitate the program uploading process. So when you connect an Arduino Uno to computer via USB cable, you will see a virtual COM port appears in your computer. In Windows OS, you can check in Device Manager, under Ports (COM & LPT) category.

Some of you may ask what's the difference between UC00A and UC00C? UC00A uses the all-time favourite FTDI chip. Its exceptional reliability provides the peace-of-mind solution you need in all circumstances. UC00C on the other hand is a low cost alternative which just get its job done at a fraction of the cost of FTDI counterpart. UC00C also should auto install on most operating systems without the need for additional drivers. UC00C is tested to work well on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. You will definitely see at least one or two UC00A and/or UC00C on our engineers' work desk because they are among the most important yet convenient tools for our day to day development.

3.3V or 5V Voltage Level Selection Switch

UC00C is equiped with a slide switch for instant voltage selection between 3.3V and 5V. Sliding this switch to either side will set UC00C to output the selected voltage on Vcc and signal lines. Using a USB to UART converter to troubleshoot two different logic level systems (eg: Arduino Uno and Raspberry Pi) has never been easier!

Please note that when the slide switch is set to 5V, the board will source as much power as your USB port will provide. When it is set to 3.3V, the maximum current UC00C can provide is limited to 500mA.

    LED Indicators

UC00C also has two LEDs built-in for instant reference when you need to know whether the serial lines are active/busy. Red LED is used for TX line while RX line is indicated with Orange LED.
