Note: These are options for the Official Case (Black & Grey) and Case Fan for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. Please choose your preferred kit under the Available Options:
The launch of the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B computer on 24th June 19 comes with many big upgrades. And of course the official case/enclosure too.
This official enclosure for the latest RPi 4 Model B comes in Black and Grey colors, the most preferred color for computer devices:) It is now available here in the Cytron marketplace! As hard as the Raspberry Pi team wanted to keep the compatibility, there are quite some significant changes on Raspbery Pi 4 Model B due to the upgrades. A few changes that most likely affecting the case are:
- 2 x micro HDMI ports instead of 1 x standard HDMI port
- USB type C as a power input port instead of USB micro B socket
- The swap of the Ethernet port with 2 x USB 2.0 ports
So Raspberry Pi 4 Model B computer will not fit into most of the cases for the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B or B+. Thus this new case. While we're getting more alternative cases, this will be perfect protection and an elegant case for the latest single-board computer. And of course, this case is a result of a well-designed effort and definitely what we've come to expect from the folks who made the Raspberry Pi.
And if you like the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B to have active and passive cooling, choose the kit with an official case fan. It is also designed by the Raspberry Pi for the official case, and it comes with a cooling fan and heatsink. It will keep your Raspberry Pi cool!
Note: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B board is not included.
Everything is snap and fit, including the case, and the case fan, and NO screw or nut is needed to assemble it. Neat and nice!
It also comes with an adhesive heatsink for you to paste on the BCM2711 CPU of Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, further keeping the board cool!
Did I mention it? The cooling fan is PWM controllable from Raspberry Pi OS. By default, the fan will start spinning right after the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is powered. If temperature-controlled fan activation is needed, some configuration is needed. Anyway, just make sure to update the Raspberry Pi OS.
Since it is PWM controllable, there is an extra wire needed besides the RED for 5V(pin 2 or 4) and BLACK for the GND (pin 6). The additional BLUE wire should be connected to pin 8 of Raspberry Pi's GPIO.
Now, using the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B single-board computer in the official case will be worry free! Check out the following graph of temperature performance under stress-test (Stressberry) in different conditions: CPU clocking at 1.5GHz
- Red - Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 3 heatsinks (CPU, RAM, and USB Controller), in the official case (Red/White), no additional fan
- Blue - Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, bare board, no heatsink, and not in any case/enclosure
- Orange - Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 3 heatsinks (CPU, RAM, and USB Controller), not in any case/enclosure
- Green - Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with the only heatsink on the CPU, in the official case (Red/White) and the add-on case fan
As the chart shows, the case fan will keep the Raspberry Pi cool in the official case under full load test :)
