Many has been asking us to get XBee module which is ZigBee Compliance, here you go, the XBee RF ZB module. This is the XBee XB24-Z7WIT-004 (S2) XB24CZ7WIT-004 (S2C) module from Digi. It is XBee RF ZB (ZigBee) module, but often refer to XBee Series 2, and the new is called Series 2C. Series 2C improves on the power output and data protocol even more compared to Series 2. Series 2C modules allow you to create complex mesh networks based on the XBee ZB ZigBee mesh firmware. These modules allow a very reliable and simple communication between microcontrollers, computers, systems, really anything with a serial port! Point to point and multi-point networks are supported.

This XBee Series 2 module have the same pin out as XBee Series 1 which we are carrying all the while, so you can use it with the existing SKXBee, but bear in mind, Series 2 and Series 1 cannot inter-connect. Series 1 cannot talk to Series 2 module and vise versa. Please take a look at the major differences between XBee Series 1 and Series 2

Due to recent flooding in Thailand and the subsequent damage to the Digi factories, there may be long lead times on all XBee products and shortages until they recover from the damage.

Note: If you are looking for a simple point-to-point configuration, you might need to update the firmware using SKXbee with X-CTU. Please download the latest X-CTU installer here.

Note: Series 1 and Series 2 XBee modules have the same pin-out. However, Series 1 modules cannot communicate with Series 2 modules and vise versa.

Hi, as we know, smartphone doesn't support Xbee protocol communication. You can consider to use either bluetooth or WiFi module to communicate with smartphone. Do this xbee need extra kit? or I just need a pair of this xbee series 2? assume that I am gonna connect one (xbee) to FPGA and another one (xbee) to a Computer. My final goal is to transmit data from FPGA to computer and vice versa. ( LWC, 12/03/2015 )

Well, there are a few things you need to take care of. XBee is 3.3V module, you need to make sure it is powered with 3.3V and interface with 3.3V I/O (UART) for communication, at FPGA and computer. Besides the electrical specification, the pin of XBee module is 2mm picth to picth which is not common. So normally, we will use SKXBee which provide the 3.3V voltage regulator, proper level shifter from 3.3V to 5V for UART communication, and USB connection to computer. If you already have solution for above mentioned features of XBee, yup, you just need 2 XBee for communication. :)
