This is the newly designed XBee Shield. It comes WITHOUT XBee module offering freedom to choose which ever compatible Xbee module you like to use :) It is a XBee expansion board that design for Arduino and you need to buy a XBee module separately.

Xbee radios are an awesome way to add wireless capability to your Arduino project and now it's even easier with the XBee Shield. The shield form-factor mates directly with any dev board that has an Arduino standard footprint and equips it with wireless communication capabilities using the popular XBee module, or other Xbee compatible module (BlueBee, XBee Series 2, XBee-WiFi). This unit works with all XBee modules including the Series 1 and 2, standard and Pro versions, not to forget the XBee-WiFi and BlueBee.

The serial pins (DIN and DOUT) of the XBee are connected through jumpers, which allows you to select a connection to either the UART pins (D0, D1) or any digital pins on the Arduino D0, D1, D2, D3, D8, D9, D10 and D11. It even provides the option to connect XBee UART pin to USB's UART pin. This feature offers flexibility to use hardware UART or softserial on Arduino. Power is taken from the 5V pin of the Arduino and regulated on-board to 3.3VDC before being supplied to the XBee. The shield also takes care of level shifting on the DIN and DOUT pins of the XBee.

The board also includes LEDs to indicate power and activity on DIN, DOUT, RSSI, and DIO5(ASSOC) pins of the XBee. The Arduino's reset button is brought out on the shield, and we reserve a space with 0.1" holes for prototyping. The shield does come with headers installed.

  • Mounts directly onto your Arduino
  • DIN and DOUT pins of XBee can be connected to either the USB's UART pins or other digital pin on the Arduino (D0, D1, D2, D3, D8, D9, D10, D11)
  • 3.3V power regulation and proper level shifting on-board communication between 5V and 3.3V
  • Extra 0.1" spaced prototyping holes
  • Reset button brought out to shield
  • Power, DIN, DOUT, RSSI and DIO5 indicator LEDs
  • Dimension: 68.58mm x 53.34mm
Working with:
Arduino Uno
Arduino Leonardo
Arduino Mega
Arduino Duemilanove
Is XBee series 1 and 2 discontinued? Does this shield work with the current S3 Xbee? ( Mark Tee, 07/12/2020 )
Hi, you may refer to this link for XBEE Pro Series 1. Thanks :)
Hi, may I know the current consumption of this Cytron XBee Shield? Or can you email me the datasheet of this shield? Thank you. Best regards, Max ( Max Lee Soon Yee, 10/11/2016 )

Hi, we do not measure the consumption of the shield and it only has User's Manual.

Can i use this xbee shield and XBee Series 1 module with ardunino board instead of using the XBee starter kit? Can the XBee transmit and receive signal directly from the arduino board? ( edwin, 25/10/2016 )

Yes sure you can use it.

If you have further question, you can ask at our technical forum, as this session is only for short inquiry. Thanks. :)

Hi, is this shield ROHS compliant? If so, does it come with some kind of certificate? Thanks! ( David, 19/05/2016 )

We are using ROHS complaint material, PCB and solder. But we do not have the certificate.

do Xbee is necessary to connect Bluebee module ? or can i connect Bluebee with arduino microcontroller without xbee shield? ( Tan, 26/11/2015 )

Hi. XBee module is different with BlueBee module so it is not necessary to use it together with BlueBee. Yes, you can connect BlueBee directly with Arduino microcontroller without Xbee shield. Thanks. :)

If i buy Xbee starter kit ( SKXBee + XBee Series 1 + USB Mini-B Cable) , 1 Xbee 1mW , 1 Cytron XBee Shield and 1 Arduino starter kit , can I easily start connecting between Xbee without problem ? ( becky, 18/11/2015 )

Hi, You can refer here. Thanks. :)

Can I use this Cytron XBee shield with xbee 568 and arduino to connect to my route and use the internet to store my data online? ( John, 03/07/2015 )

This unit works with all XBee modules including the Series 1 and 2, standard and Pro versions, also works with the XBee-WiFi and BlueBee. For further discussion do visit our technical forum since this session is for short inquiry.

i have arduino uno and 12v dc motor. i want to control the speed and direction of this motor. i wish to connect my Adruino wirelessly to my laptop. if i use Cytron XBee Shield, do i need other device to control my dc motor (for instance 2Amp Motor Driver Shield) or not? ( mohd, 05/05/2015 )

Yes, to drive motor, you will need motor driver shield. Depending on what type of motor you use, choose the driver shield. 2A motor driver shield is able to drive two motor at maximum 2A each. Of course the XBee or wireless module for wireless communication too. If you have further inquiry, please do discuss in our technical forum as this section is for short inquiry, thanks :)

How do i disable the serial on Arduino? ( martin, 05/03/2015 )

Please discuss in our technical forum.

Can i do the XCTU network setting using Arduino with Xbee shield only? Or i need a SKXbee? I am afraid that the setting will crash the Arduino chip serial data and xbee serial data if the XCTU setting are program directly using Xbee shield. ( martin, 05/03/2015 )

That is possible, Cytron XBee shield provides the option to connect XBee, and the computer may communicate with the XBee. But your Arduino must not enable the serial function as the serial on Arduino will disturb the communication between XBee and computer. Check out the tutorial: Using Cytron XBee Shield. If you have further inquiry, please do discuss in our technical forum as this section is for short inquiry, thanks :)
